Captivating Kitchens

Here are some beautiful kitchens that all display a rustic flair. They are good examples of how you can decorate differently with rustic to fit your own personal style.

Decorating with Rustic

A few days ago, we asked for some input on what our readers would like to read. There were some really neat suggestions and some very good questions.
One of the questions that was asked was (I'm summarizing) how do you showcase or decorate with Decorous, or rustic furnishings in general?
As you will see in the links below, there are different ways of decorating with a rustic theme.
Although as a man (I seem to be out of the ordinary when it comes to this), I enjoy interior decorating. My favorite approach to it is what I call a rustic modern style. It includes a lot of natural wood, especially when it comes to the floor and main furnishings. Contrasting the wood with some off white, distressed white, or some shades of tan using things like pillows, curtains, bed spreads, and couch cushions helps it not become gloomy feeling. When it comes to materials, I really like a burlap type material, especially if it has printed vintage style words or pictures. Choosing a few rich, but faded colors and creating a theme with that color in each room will make it a little more interesting and lively.
When it comes to the kitchen and bathroom, using bronze, brass, or brushed stainless steel usually looks quite stunning with the simple lines and rustic colors that we use in our furniture. But don't just take it from me, here are a few links that outline ways to create appealing rustic styles.

We know that it can be difficult to visualize a piece of furniture in your own home, with your style, without first seeing it in a similar setting. We've gathered some pictures of how people have decorated with reclaimed wood furnishings, giving you the chance to see its broad decorating range. You can use rustic/reclaimed with many different styles, whether it be country, vintage, urban, contemporary, and even modern. See how these people have decorated their homes:

All About Doors

Doors are more important than we give them credit for. They greet you as you arrive home from work each day and wait steadfastly for you while you're gone. They are the first ones to welcome your guests and the last ones to say goodbye. I love seeing beautiful doors that are so full of character. They remind me of old friends- constant, loyal, and enduring.

Incredible Homes

Wouldn't it be cool to live in a building that was not initially intended to be a home? People all over have been thinking the same thing and turning barns, churches, and even shipping containers into homes. It is a great way to use abandoned or unused buildings, while at the same time getting a one of a kind house. What I most love about these homes are the unique architectural designs that one might not find in a "normal" house. The open rooms, stained glass windows, and rustic wooden beams make them so intriguing. I would love to live in a home like one of these someday!
